Montana Tech Circle K immediate past president Megan and current president Adriana were guests today.

Shawn reminded everyone that the Bike Rodeo is coming up on May 21 - that's a week from Saturday. We need all the volunteers we can get.

Paul introduced Nicole Loehr, the current Circle K International Vice President, and member of the Montana Tech chapter of Circle K. Nicole was also previously Circle K Governor for Montana.

Nicole walked us through an exercise on the AIM (Appearance, Invitation, and Motivation) concept for building and retaining membership.

She first went around the room and had each of us state one thing we would change about the world. Everyone had something to say, and all the comments were interesting and informative. Wishes varied from youth literacy to competent construction work (and, of course, having enough volunteers for the Bike Rodeo in 11 days).

We then went through the three components of AIM and listed five items to define each branch.

Appearance:
Walk the Talk
Hygiene
Smile - be friendly
Attitude
Punctuality - keep commitments

Invitation:
Ask - people won't come if nobody asks them
Eliminate excuses - for example, give your guest a ride to the meeting
Purpose - what are we doing, how does it help the prospective member
Innovative - keep some things changing to keep people interested
Networking - let prospective members know who they may meet at a meeting or event

Motivation:
Projects of Interest - keep projects varied to involve more people
Involvement - get people involved in the planning of projects and listed to other ideas
Social Activities - it doesn't always have to be service work
Personal Interests - get to know the other members of the club
Punctuality - start events on time

Nicole also talked about her travels this last year. Her favorite convention was the Capitol District convention, which had a chocolate theme, and her favorite presentation was in Ohio where the theme was Vegas.

This Sunday Nicole, Adriana, and 18 other members of the Montana District of Circle K are going to Guatemala to work at an orphanage for several days before going off to their jobs and internships.
