Silver Bow Kiwanis Kiwanis Club Meeting, May 24, '11

Shawn announced that we helped between 150-160 kids with our Bike Rodeo last Saturday, but had mixed results with the bicycle giveaway portion of the event.

Paul Vang introduced Laura who was a graduate from Butte High in 2003. She had an opportunity to study abroad three times while in college, once in Scotland, once in Antarctica, Argentina, and Chile, and once in Spain. After college she worked as a volunteer at an orphanage outside Bangalore, India, then got a job teaching English at a school in Sendai, Japan. She was in Japan when the earthquake and tsunami hit. Fortunately, she was far enough inland that she did not experience the tsunami directly.

The school she worked for set up relief services, and worked with teams on the ground who were reporting what was needed where. Because of this, they were able to deliver nearly 50 tons of donated supplies to nearly 9,000 people over the course of 15 days.
