Silver Bow Kiwanis Kiwanis Club Meeting, Jan 10, '12
12:00-1:00 Tuesday, January 10, 2012Our guests today were Adriana and Megan from the Circle K up at Tech.
Shane introduced Bill Melvin from the Civic Center. The Civic Center is having an open house tonight from 4 to 7, and everyone is welcome.
One of the most significant upgrades they received was the replacement of the boilers. The old boilers were from 1952 and cost as much as $14,000 to heat the Civic Center per month. The new boilers will be much more efficient, saving the county money. The manufacturer's estimate is that in four years the Civic Center will have saved the cost of the new boilers in reduced energy expenses.
The Civic Center likes to work with clubs and organizations in town that do not have a home of their own. They support the Butte Wrestling Club and the Butte Soccer Club.
The Civic Center tries to stay out of the competition for many types of events that can be better handled by other facilities in the area, such as weddings. Instead they focus on larger events like concerts and trade shows.
Bill had some information for everyone, including some photos of the old boilers and the new boilers.
