This week we had many guests. Adriana, Hannah, and Michaela from the Circle K were there, Jack brought his friend Mick, and Kristi brought her friend Samantha. Roger's wife Marsha, Paul's wife Kay, Desiree's husband Nate, and Shawn's wife Lyn were all there as well.

Shane introduced our speaker Matt, who has spoken to us several times before in relation to his work with the Clark Fork Watershed Education Project.

Matt is running on a "5 Es" platform and provided everyone a handout. The 5 Es are Excellence, Engagement, Economy, Education, and Environment. Matt wants to find out what is going on with services and businesses moving away from Butte before the move happens, and figure out what needs to be done to keep those in Silver Bow County.

Matt is also concerned about the accountability of the elected officials, particularly the Chief Executive. An evaluation of the Chief Executive is required by law, but Matt does not know when the last one was performed, and can confirm that during the seven years he worked for the county it was not performed.

With over half of the population of Butte-Silver Bow living below 200% of the national poverty level, Matt wants to make sure people know that they do not need to be rich to have an impact on the local government. One thing he did to address this was his $1 filing fee campaign - he raised the $512 required to file for the position of Chief Executive one dollar at a time in single donations from people he actually spoke with.

If Matt is elected to office, he wants to start a policy of publicly advertising expiring and vacant board positions for any of the boards that help manage and govern Butte-Silver Bow to get more involvement from the public. And he believes that an economic development plan needs to cover more than just trying to attract any external businesses to Butte, but also wants to work on developing the businesses already here because local businesses keep more money here longer. But he acknowledges that attracting outside businesses is also important.
