Dave was here from Butte Central High's Key Club to deliver the Butter Braided Bread several of us ordered.

Keith announced that Debby McKinnon, the faculty adviser for our Builder's Club at Butte Central Middle School has asked if a couple of us from the Kiwanis Club can come with them to help dye eggs at marquis Vintage Suites next Wednesday, March 28.

Michaela and Adriana from the Circle K were here as well.

Shane introduced our speaker, Gary Shea, president of the Butte Board of Realtors.

Realtors have been around as a trade organization for over 100 years, with multiple levels from local to international. It started with only 120 members a century ago, and now there are over 1 million Realtors world-wide. There are about 95 members in the Butte Board of Realtors, who operate throughout Montana, but primarily in the Butte, Anaconda, Whitehall, Deer Lodge, Dillon and Philipsburg area - roughly a 100 mile radius of Butte.

Realtors take the complexities of real estate transactions and make it understandable and less stressful in a professional and ethical way.

The real estate bubble that started around 2000 didn't really hit Butte because of the concerns surrounding the Montana Power and Touch America situation. By 2004 that issue had cleared up, and the real estate market in the Butte area started to pick up. Then, in 2007 national economic issues did affect the local market, but in the fall of 2011 it started to improve again.

Buyers generally want confidence that the market is growing.

One of the biggest issues in the Butte market is the need for new housing. While many buyers are looking for an older home for any of a variety of reasons and we have plenty of those, other buyers are looking for a newer home and that market is very limited locally.

The mortgage environment is improving for single-family, owner occupied properties, but is still difficult for other types of property.
