Silver Bow Kiwanis Kiwanis Club Meeting, Jun 29, '10
12:00-1:00 Tuesday, June 29, 2010Our slate of officers for next year was announced and unanimously passed.
Then Betsy introduced our speakers, Janice and Nancy, who talked about Butte's Relay for Life and how the funds raised for the American Cancer Society do come back to Butte, MT and support locals.
The Relay for Life was started in 1985 by Gordy Platt in Tacoma, WA who took it upon himself to walk for 24 hours on a track in his town to raise awareness - and money - for cancer research and cancer victims. In 2010 that has grown from one man on one track to 5200 Relays in the US, and Relays in 20 other countries around the world raising money for cancer research and cancer victims.
Nancy and Janice pointed out that cancer does not just affect the elderly, but that many cancer survivors are children that need support and encouragement.
Butte's 2010 Relay for Life will be held at Copper Mountain Park August 6-7, 2010.
