Lee introduced her guest Regan, the adult services librarian, who brought her infant son Kioke. Shane also introduced his daughter Jordan.

Keith announced that there is a Safety Plan Forum at the Civic Center tonight from 6pm to 9pm.

Shane then introduced Lee as our speaker. Lee first announced that she is attending the Kiwanis International Convention in New Orleans at the end of the month. There are several important things being decided at this international convention, including a $15/year dues increase for the international dues. This, if passed, would indicate that our monthly dues would have to go up.

Lee started her presentation on the library with some statistics. For the fiscal year 2011 the main library was closed for six months due to flooding. Despite this closure, there were 80,740 visitors to the library, 55,390 items in circulation, 21,840 hours of computer use, and 8,376 program attendees.

This year the summer kid's programs go through July 31, and have already started with an ice cream social. One of the big events will be the sidewalk chalk drawing at the library just before the Montana Folk Festival.

The library has also started participating in a Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks initiative to insure that kids have life jackets when on the water. You can now check out life jackets from the library with your library card.

The Butte Public Library also started the courier program that now serves 50 libraries in the state. The courier service works because it is a partnership between public and private sector operations.

Lee then had Regan talk about some of the adult and teen programs this summer. The next event coming up is a Super Smash Brothers Brawl Wii Tournament this Saturday. The summer program culminates with a Zombie Read-In on August 3. This may include a zombie march on Boradway if attendance is high enough.

The geocaching that was so popular last summer is back, and this year there is an opportunity to win one of two Kindle ereaders!
