Silver Bow Kiwanis Kiwanis Club Meeting, Jul 24, '12
12:00-1:00 Tuesday, July 24, 2012Doreena led the meeting and introduced her daughter Jordan as her guest. Then she introduced our speaker for the week, Cathy Tutty and Kaitlyn Okrusch speaking about An Ri Ra.
This is the tenth year the An Ri Ra Irish Festival has been hosted in Butte. Many of the acts are returning favorites, including Kathleen Keane who was the first performer with An Ri Ra ten years ago.
One of the big things that has come of An Ri Ra is the Irish Dancers. The troupe here was started through An Ri Ra and influences by 12 dancers who came from Chicago that first year. We now have over 200 dancers performing here, most of whom are locals. These dancers have progressed far enough to earn their own solo dresses. These costumes have to be earned, and can cost thousands of dollars once you have earned the dress.
Tickets are $20 in advance, and despite claims that they can't be purchased after July 8, they are still available through Cavinaugh's on Park Street.
They are also hosting a raffle, with tickets $3 each or $20 for a book of ten. Check with Cathy to get tickets.
There is also, again, a fun run, and this year the run will have certified chip timers.
An Ri Ra is in need of volunteers, so if you can help at the information desk, selling or taking tickets at the gates, or with the kid's tent, let Cathy know.
