Mark brought his daughter Shea to join us today, and we know Tech is back, as Matt and Michaela from the Circle K joined us as well.

Lee introduced our speaker, Jordan Backstrom from Americore to talk to us about habitat for Humanity and National Affordable Housing Network projects and services here in Butte. Jordan is a Minnesota native, who has only been in Butte for a month.

Habitat for Humanity is just finishing 9 houses in Butte, and will be starting another round in the next month or so. These are "mutual self-help" projects, where the to-be home owners contribute labor along with other volunteers and professional builders toward the completion of the home.

The local Habitat for Humanity/National Affordable Housing Network offices are in the Phoenix building on Park street. In the basement of the Phoenix building, they are working on a Re-Store, where they will be able to sell gently used fixtures, cabinets, doors, siding, shingles, and other building materials at a discounted price.

Another project they are working on is the "Brush with Kindness" project, were volunteers get together to paint and perform minor repairs for homeowners with disabilities or limited mobility and financial need.

Jordan is a VISTA, so he mainly works behind the scenes, coordinating volunteers and developing partnerships with other volunteer and service organizations around the community.

Toward that end, he let us know about two projects coming up this weekend. These projects are part of the 9/11 day of service initiative. On Friday they need volunteers to help work on the warehouse for the Re-Store in the Phoenix building on Park. They are looking for people around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. They will likely also need volunteers here on Saturday as well. The second project is part of the "Brush with Kindness" project, where they will be painting a house here in Butte. This is on Saturday, and they are looking for people around 11:00. Please stop by their office in the Phoenix Building for more information.
