Former member Ed Kilgore joined us today.

Roger announced that the Sunrise Kiwanis Club is selling their diner books with many coupons for many restaurants in town. The books are only $15, and you'll save a lot more than that if you even use a few of the coupons in the book!

About 2/3 of our tickets are sold for our Holiday Raffle - make sure you get your money in to Roger, the drawing is next week!

We brought in $79 for EliMiNaTe this past Saturday during the Christmas Stroll - thanks to everyone who helped - and especially to Matt from the Circle K who spent three hours as Santa to make many children happy. We also had volunteers helping out at the Thompson's Food Drive. Thank you.

Lee introduced Becky Nichols who is on the YMCA board of directors. Becky talked to us about the 3rd annual Lighten Your Load program, this year from January 3 to March 22. The rules are the same as last year. Teams of 5 with an entry fee of $20 each (that's $100 per team). Half of the funds go to the Y, and the other half is split between charities designated by the winning teams. Last year the participants lost over 4,800 pounds!

Shawn Bohr was also with Becky. Shawn is a nutritionist, and told us about the nutrition classes that the Y is holding. One important part of nutrition is water. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Many people mistake thirst for hunger, and eat when they really want a drink of water. Drinking a glass of water about 20 minutes before mealtime can help maintain a healthy appetite and can contribute to better health and weight management. 5 glasses of water per day can decrease the risk of colon cancer by 45%. Keeping properly hydrated helps maintain memory and cognitive skills, and works as a natural moisturizer to keep skin healthy and pliant.

The Y's next nutrition class will be on whole foods and working more vegetables into your diet. The nutrition classes focus on healthy habits and fun, flavorful foods.
