Silver Bow Kiwanis Kiwanis Club Meeting, Aug 10, '10
12:00-1:00 Tuesday, August 10, 2010Stephanie from the Tech Circle K joined us for lunch today, and Paul Vang announced that Nicole Loehr, who was the Montana Circle K Governor for 2009-2010, is now the Circle K International Vice Presient.
Jack announced that Shriners are having a fund raiser to raise money to pay for transportation of children to Shriner's hospitals. Please contact Jack for further information or to make a donation.
Kristi reported that the Walk for Life went well, and was a lot of fun, especially for the kids, though it did have to move from Copper Park to the Civic Center in the middle of the event due to weather.
Lloyd reported that attendance was up for the Bull-a-Rama. Ten Kiwanians (and family) showed up to help with parking, tickets, and program sales.
Tim provided some amusing anecdotes about his personal experience with computer malware, and pointed out that you should always use caution when mysterious alerts pop up, even when the alert tells you that you have a virus - the alert may be a virus or malware! Reader's Digest recently has had a series of articles on security issues like this.
Also be ware of any emails you receive that seem off or seem too good to be true. Most people are aware of the "Nigerian scam" emails that come around and offer you a lot of money if you can just provide someone a little money (comparably) to pay a bribe or something. If someone has that money and it is yours, you will never have to pay to get it, whether its from a lottery or from some tragically deceased former oil baron's poor little widow.
Remember to scan your computer with a good piece of anti-malware software and a good piece of anti-virus software at least once a week. Delete old emails that you don't need to keep, delete old files, and empty your trash in your email and your recycle bin regularly.
There are both good and bad anti-virus and anti-malware (or anti-spyware) software available, so check reviews of what you are downloading before you download anything.
There are many programs, (unfortunately good and bad) available from sites like download.com and Filehippo.
