Matt, Michaela, and Adrianna were here from the Circle K. Shawn let everyone know that there are posters for the Bike Rodeo available, contact Shawn or Keith if you need one. Cathy let us know that there were 18 members and 8 guests at the Social at Headframe last week. One of those guests is now a member, welcome Jessica! Also, production at headframe is high enough that they are having to expand to provide an aging room and for production of their stills.

Mark then led a discussion about meeting improvements and suggestions from the Montana Membership Tour last week.

The first topic of discussion was that many of our members who turned in the survey indicated that they want more service projects. At the same time, several people marked that it was always the same people coming to events and that signup sheets often came back blank. Tim mentioned the adopt a lot, walking trail cleanup and highway cleanups that we haven't done this year, and asked if anyone wanted to head up one of those projects. Roger also pointed out that the board elected to drop our "Adopt-A-Highway" section in Elk Park two years ago in favor of doing a cleanup at the Chamber of Commerce Visitors' Center, which we also haven't done this year. We do need to get out there and paint and stain the Gazebo, and there is bound to be additional cleanup to be done there. Steve pointed out that we have the Bike Rodeo coming up in a few weeks, and we should make sure we do a good job of that.

On a different note, Cathy suggested we look into the Kiwanis anti-bullying program and see if we can get that process started here. Hopefully it would be a program that we could start and get all the pieces in place and then it could be handed off to the school district and the law enforcement department. It was suggested that we look into the status of existing programs to see if some of that leg work has been done before starting again from square one. There were active neighborhood watch programs in place previously.

To address awareness issues, Shane suggested organizing "shirt days" where all members would be asked to wear a Kiwanis shirt as a conversation starter. Ken reminded us all of the Kiwanis ASK program - Always Seek Kiwanians.

Another topic that was discussed was to change up the meeting. Possibly replacing the patriotic song or the safety tip with a bit of Kiwanis history or trivia, or maybe some history of the Silver Bow Kiwanis club or history of Kiwanis in Butte. The membership seemed to think that a change may be good, but seemed reluctant to give up the song.

If you have ideas on how to make our meetings better or our club better, please share them with a member of the board!
