Tim reminded us all of the Tech game this Saturday at 6 - if you want to help take tickets, be there at 4, and Jack reminded us of our cleanup project at noon this Saturday as well. jack expects us to be having barbecued burgers at the chamber by 2:30, so there will be plenty of time to get up to Tech to help at the game if you want to help with both. More information about both of these events is on the web site.

Our speakers today were Chuck Denowh and Sandra Sullivan, representing the Montana Coalition to Prevent Double Taxation, speaking about Constitutional Initiative 105 (CI-105).

CI-105 is a constitutional amendment to prevent the state legislature or local governments from instituting a tax on real estate transfers. Montana is one of only 13 states to not yet have this tax. Arizona passed a similar prohibition recently, and Missouri also has a similar initiative on their ballot this year.

A tax like this has been proposed nine of the last ten years in Montana. supporters of the initiative argue that this tax is narrow in scope and will have greater negative impact on the economy and on individuals than will be offset by the revenue it generates for the state.
