This week we had Matt, David, and Laura from the Montana Tech Circle K, along with Alex who is helping as a faculty advisor for the Circle K at Tech. We also had Mr. Stonehocker and eight members of the Butte Central Key Club. Mr. Stonehocker also brought their new principal Mr. St. Johns. Kale, the Key Club Vice President, introduced their members present. Connor, the Key Club President let us know that the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF raised over $840 to donate to the EliMiNaTe Project. There were over 40 kids participating between the two Builder's Clubs, the two Key Clubs, and the Circle K. Dylan, the Key Club Secretary, let us know that the Key Club is working on a coat drive, holiday meals, and other projects.

Then Lee introduced Regan. Regan explained that the 100 mile meal is part of their local foods project. The 100 mile meal is a meal that is primarily produced from local products - foods raised, grown, harvested, or produced within 100 miles of Butte.

The 100 mile meal is this Saturday, November 2, at 5:30pm at the Butte Emergency Food Bank. There is a recommended donation of $15 per meal, but no purchase or donation is required - however space is limited to the first 50 present. Of course, food bank donations are always appreciated. The menu is bruchetta, roast potatoes, creamy beet soup, baked pene, and pumpkin pie.

The 100 mile meal grew out of the library's ongoing efforts to partner with local organizations. Many people want to eat local foods, but get confused between local foods, organic foods, whole foods, and other different current dietary recommendations. Other people run into other road blocks regarding finding local foods - like how to find out if a food is local, what it means for a food to be local, or where to get local foods. At the hundred mile meal there will be several presentations about what local food is, how to get local food, and why local food is important.
