This week we were joined by Matt and David from the Circle K. Matt let us know he had tickets for their Holiday Cares raffle. Tickets are $1 each or $5 for 6 tickets. Contact any member of the Circle K to get tickets.

Our Holiday Raffle sales continue. Make sure you get your tickets sold by December 3. Let Bill know if you need more tickets.

After we ate, we had a tour of the facility. They have a large meeting room which is used for a variety of community events. In addition, they have a reading room, and have a complete collection of the Butte and Anaconda newspapers into the 1960s. After the availability of Microfiche and Microfilm, fewer papers were saved and bound, so their collection is less complete after those dates. However, the Butte Public Library does have a full set of the Montana Standard on Microfiche.

When you come in to do research, let a member of the Archives staff or a volunteer know what you are looking for. If research on that topic has already been done, the information may be available in a vertical file, making your job easier.

We then got to see the climate controlled vault. much of the archive is organized and indexed, but this is an ongoing process. They are just starting on the photo archive.

We then got to see the processing room, the receiving area, and the storage area. All items come in to the receiving area and are kept there in a closed off space to make sure there are no bugs, spores, or anything else that would harm the collection. When the Mai Wah museum received a lot of Butte Chinese artifacts that had been in questionable storage in Virginia City, the Archives received all that material and kept it in their receiving area until it was decontaminated and could be sorted and organized.
