This week we were joined by Matt and Michaela from the Montana Tech Circle K, and it was Matt's birthday! Happy Birthday Matt!

Keith let us know about the updated policies from Kiwanis International regarding Youth Advisors. Over the next few weeks, he will be presenting some information on these policies at our meetings. The policy requires clubs to inform members about the policies, and to provide each member with a copy of the policies. The policies now also require that criminal background checks be performed on all SLP advisors and all members working on projects targeting children. We are trying to find information on how to get the background checks performed and how these are paid for.

Bill reminded us of the unfortunate teen suicides in our community, and let us know that there is a suicide awareness and prevention meeting scheduled for January 21 at 4pm. The meeting is scheduled in the meeting room at St. James, but has already outgrown that location. Coordinators are looking into the Civic Center or the MAC as possible venues. Additional information will be available as the date approaches.

Dave let us know that the Class A Speech Tournament is coming up January 25 here in Butte. This event is being held at the Butte Public Library, Butte Central High, and Butte Central Elementary School. Judges are needed and training sessions are available. Please contact Dave at Butte Central High for sign up sheets and more information.

For our program this week, Cathy had us write down the bad things about 2013 that we wish hadn't happened, or that we didn't need to deal with, or that just made part of the year difficult. We then went and shredded these sheets. Cathy reminded us that that was in the past and we need to look forward to what we are going to do now.

She then passed out bright colored fun cards to everyone and asked that we write down what we are going to accomplish this year. She then had us shred those as well, since those aspirations are limited and we should be able to accomplish much more as the year progresses and we have more resources available and manage to complete tasks we need to complete.
