Today we were joined by Reno, David, and Adrianna from the Circle K.

Keith reminded us of the K-Family meetings scheduled for this week: Builder's Club Wednesday at 12:30 in Miss Tutty's room at Butte Central Middle School, Key Club Thursday at 12:00 at the Butte Central High Library, and Circle K at 6:20 in the Pintler Room in the SUB. David let us know that this week's Circle K meeting is a Pizza Party and they are asking people to RSVP so they can get a head count. If you are interested in attending, let David Toth or Matt Foster know. Also, the Circle K installation of officers is scheduled for Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Metals at 7pm. Please also RSVP for that if you plan to attend.

Cathy let us know that the Butte Emergency Food Bank is hosting their empty bowl fundraiser on March 27, 2014 at the Front Street Station. The cost is $20, and you get a bowl created by a local artist. The food bank will fill it with soup. the proceeds go to the Butte Emergency Food Bank. If you want a ticket contact Cathy!

The Montana District is looking for unsung heroes to recognize at the Midwinter Conference. Nominees are due to Roger Baker by Friday, March 14. If you have someone you want to nominate, please contact Keith to get Roger's contact information, or email Roger directly.

Also with Midwinter coming up, we want to encourage attendance to the conference, or at least the interclub luncheon on Saturday. The cost of the lunch is $25, but the club will pay for the luncheon for any members who wish to attend. If you wish to attend this luncheon on Saturday, March 29 at Fairmont, please contact Mark.

Gene let us know that the Butte Soccer Club is selling raffle tickets. Their raffle works like ours, there is a $1,500 prize, a $1,000 prize, and a $500 prize which you can spend at Steele's Warehouse, Bugs & Bullets, Pierce Flooring, or Lisac's Tires. Tickets are $5.00. Please contact Gene to get tickets before they're all gone!

Paul Tash then introduced Kate Ulney from the St. James Foundation. Kate has been with the St. James Foundation for about two years now. The Foundation was established in 2003 to provide for the needs of patients with St. James Hospital.

The Foundation's most used fund is the Patient Compassion Fund. Originally this was the PAL Fund, which helped pay for transportation when a patient needed to be transferred to St. James from another hospital in the area or needed to be transferred from St. James to another hospital in the area to receive the care they needed. However, this has been expanded to help cover the cost of some co-payments, prescriptions, or equipment a patient may need on discharge, and is even used for cab rides home for patients who do not have a ride home when they are discharged.

The St. James Foundation has several other funds they oversee. The Associates' Sharing Plan is money donated by staff at St. James Hospital which is split between assistance for staff and their families and local non-profit service organizations. The Residency Rotation Program Fund is used to pay the moving and housing expenses for medical students in their last year of residency to do their residency in Butte in hopes of getting them to consider working at a facility like St. James. The St. James School of Nursing Fund provides scholarships for nursing students in their senior year at Montana Tech.

Every year the St. James Foundation has a Gala Dinner to help fund specific projects. This year the fundraising is for the cancer center at St. James. While the number of cancer patients has grown over the last ten years, the facility has not been upgraded. The waiting room is small, there are two reception desks (due to a portion of the cancer center formerly being a separate private practice), and the chemotherapy treatment room, in particular, is overcrowded and lacks privacy. They hope to break ground on the upgrades to these services starting in April. This year's Gala Dinner is next weekend.
