Silver Bow Kiwanis Kiwanis Club Meeting, Jun 17, '14
12:00-1:00 Tuesday, June 17, 2014Today we were joined by Kt and Jess's friend Raul, and Sunvee's friend Leonna. Leonna reminded us that the Folk Festival is coming up in July, and they are looking for volunteers in many capacities including Artist Buddies, Backstage Hospitality, Drink Ticket Sales, and Butte Ambassadors. If you are interested in volunteering with the Montana Folk Festival, you can sign up through the Montana Folk Festival web site.
Dave gave us an update on the EliMiNaTe project. They should reach 50% of funds in the next 10-20 days, which is a major milestone in any major campaign.
Cathy then introduced Frank and Mary Walsh, the Director and Treasurer for the Montana Gaelic Cultural Society. The MGCS puts on the An Ri Ra festival each year.
This is the 12th year the festival has been in Butte. When the Butte group took on the festival, they were told to only do one day, because to do more than one day would just be asking for failure. So, in typical Butte fashion, the festival was set for three days and has remained so each year it has been in Butte.
This year the An Ri Ra Irish festival is moving to the Original Mine Yard and will be free to the public. Some classes will be held at the old St. Mary's church across Main Street, and book signings and some classes will be held at the Butte Archives down the block.
As with the Montana Folk Festival, the An Ri Ra Irish Festival is looking for volunteers, for many of the same tasks. If you are interested in volunteering for the An Ri Ra Irish Festival, you can sign up through the Montana Gaelic Cultural Society web site.
This year, to help out the Montana Gaelic Cultural Society with the An Ri Ra Festival, Silver Bow Kiwanis has donated $1,000 to be the sponsor of the children's activities during the festival. The Butte History Club and the Butte Central High Key Club have committed volunteers to help staff the children's activities.
