Silver Bow Kiwanis Kiwanis Club Meeting, Jan 6, '15

Today we were joined by Matt, Brant, Reno, and David from the Circle K as well as Kristi's friend Mary from the Decatur, Illinois, Golden K Kiwanis Club.

Cathy reminded us of the memorial for DJ O'Neill scheduled for January 22. Sunvee reminded us that Butte High Speech and Debate needs volunteers to help judge. We have signup sheets or you can contact Sunvee for more information.

Keith reminded us of the Key Club meeting on Thursday at 11:56 in the Butte Central Library. The Circle K has a questionnaire out to help set the schedule for their meetings this semester. Contact Matt to submit your preferences if you plan on attending Circle K meetings.

Cathy then introduced Mallory Potts from Youth Dynamics. Youth Dynamics is a private non-profit that provides assistance for children in foster care with special behavioral needs as well as providing assistance for those foster families providing care for one of these children. Currently there is more need in the state than there are available foster families, so the organization is looking for additional foster families who can help, or even families that can provide respit care for a SED (Severe Emotional Disorder) child for up to 48 hours per month. Youth Dynamics is also looking for FSA mentors who can take a child for a few hours a few times a months to go out and do something, whether that be ice skating, playing in the park, bicycling, or some other activity, or even just helping with everyday activities.

Youth Dynamics has someone on call at all times to help with children in their program or their families, or children found to be in need of this kind of care. Youth Dynamics staff help foster families in this program with all kinds of things from organizing household schedules to help the child adapt and fit in to providing counseling on medications and how a child's medications need to be administered or where they may be able to work with a doctor to simplify the medication treatment a child may be on.
