Today Keith let us know that the Cystic Fibrosis Walk is coming up this Saturday, setup at 7am, sign-in at 9am, and the walk starts at 10am.

On a related note, the MS Walk committee is meeting Thursday evening at 7pm at the Public Library in the upstairs reading room. Brandi is our official representative, but anyone else interested in helping out is encouraged to come. The date for the MS Walk is September 19.

Last week we had out SLP recognition BBQ. There were 8 members of our club present, and one member from the Key Club and one member from the Builder's Club. We had about twelve additional guests.

Sunvee then introduced George Everett of Mainstreet Uptown Butte and the Montana Folk Festival.

George first let us know that the Folk Festival is still short of volunteers, particularly for beer ticket sales and for backstage hospitality.

This is the 8th year of the festival in Butte. The first three years were the National Folk Festival, and now five years of the Montana Folk Festival.

The Montana Folk Festival advertises throughout the region and currently attracts about 25% of attendees from out of state. We would like to see that number increase to 50%. The out of state visitors bring revenues in related to the festival, from travel and lodging expenses to money spent at nearby tourist destinations. Most people who come into Montana for this event will make the Folk Festival part of a larger trip.

Each year the genres of music at the festival are consistent: Zydeco, Gospel, Bluegrass, Blues, etc. But the artists change each year to encourage attendance and provide variety. Two headliners this year are the Savoy Family Cajun Band and Kahulanui, and Hawaiian swing band.

More information on the Montana Folk Festival, the performers, and to volunteer can be found on the Festival's web site at
