Ken brought Ruth as a guest. Ruth is a member of the Big Butte Kiwanis club which meets on Wednesdays at the Red Lion. We also had Sarah Rowe as Doreena's guest.

Keith again reminded us of this weekend's Thompson's Food Drive, and the need for food sorters at the food bank on 2nd. 6 people have signed up, but remember you can come and help if you have some time on Saturday. Come to the food bank any time between 11 and 4:30 and give a hand.

Gene passed around a sign-up sheet for the Salvation Army bell ringing. We have committed to ring at Wal-Mart on Saturday, December 18 from 10am to 6pm. We want to have two people at either entrance to Wal-Mart, so four people at any time.

The Sunrise Kiwanis Club has challenged us to match their $250 donation to the Kids in Crisis Backpack Program. Dave motioned that we accept the challenge, and Tom seconded. The motion was passed overwhelmingly by those present. We will present a check to Sunrise tomorrow morning.

The Butte high Speech and Debate Team were unable to attend today, so Roger and Dave talked about the Kids in Crisis Backpack Program, a state-wide Kiwanis effort (which we just gave $250 to).

The Kids in Crisis Backpack program puts together backpacks with a few essentials, like toothbrush, toothpaste, underwear, a change of clothing, a pair of flip-flops (Ken reminds us that they aren't called "thongs" anymore), a towel and blanket, and a snuggly or plush toy.

These backpacks are put together and are provided to women's and children's shelters or law enforcement agencies so that when a child has to be removed from a home environment, or when a child's caregivers have to be taken into custody, the child can be given something that is theirs. This also helps children as they enter temporary foster care to be less of a burden on their foster caregivers.

Don't forget, December 21 is our Christmas dinner. Bring your guest to lunch.
