The first meeting of the new year!

Lee brought her guest, Regan, the Adult Services Librarian for the Butte Public Library. The library is currently open in their "south" location in the mall from 10-5 Monday, Friday, and Saturday, and 10-8 Tuesday to Wednesday.

Terri Belke, one of the Speech and Debate Coaches from Butte High came and brought Kaitlyn and Mary from the speech team.

Terri let us know that, statewide, there are more students involved in speech and debate than any other activity. The Butte High Speech and Debate team has students that are also involved in Key Club, Honor Students, Sports, and other activities. Butte High is the 13th largest school in the state by enrollment, but is ranked 3rd for speech and debate.

Then Kaitlyn and Mary did their Duo Interpretation, or DUO, of Mary Poppins, which was very entertaining. The DUO has students select a script, cut it down, then they can add up to 50 words of their own. They then have to choreograph the piece and work out their stage direction. Then they only have 10 minutes to deliver the entire piece.

In addition to their DUO, Mary also competes in Original Oratory (OO) and Kaitlyn also competes in Humorous Oral Interpretation (HOI).
