Adam brought his father Steve and his brother Paul to the meeting today as guests.

Keith talked again about the Backpacks for Safe Space project. We're looking for t-shirts, bags or packs, and of course anything else on the list.

Adam requested our membership submit Kiwanis Stories for the web site. If you're signed in to the web site you can submit your own story.

Tim introduced Jocelyn Dodge of the Silver Bow parks and Recreation department to talk about the new pool facility at Stodden Park. There is a public meeting tonight at 7:00pm at the War Bonnet and another April 12 to talk about the planning and what decisions have been made.

Jocelyn handed out a note sheet from a power point that has been presented at other locations, and discussed several concerns with the membership in attendance.

The bath house needs to be replaced, as it is not up to code, and just renovating the exiting building limits the ability to expand the facility now or in the future. similarly, the tennis courts are in need of replacement. They have been patched, but even with the patches, one of them is still not safe to use.

The current water feature is 12,000 sq.ft., and to keep costs and space under control, the new facility is limited to 15,000 sq.ft. Though some people have suggested trying to combine this with a winter use facility, there are both scope issues and technical concerns with doing that - not to mention the question of building a hill on the flats, when we have a lot of park space already on hills...

As a separate issue, there is a planning committee working on a community park for Rocker.

Based on surveys of the public in 2004 and 2006, the two biggest concerns the public had regarding the park facilities in Butte are the appearance and ability to maintain existing parks, and the continuing issue of vandalism. Toward that end, counter-vandalism measures are being considered in the design of the new features for Stodden Park, and the maintenance budget is being worked out before plans are finalized.
