Doreena introduced Josh Peck, Event Coordinator for the Montana Folk Festival, which is coming up July 8-10 this summer.
Josh told us that this spring and summer in Uptown Butte we have a Mother's Day event, an Easter Egg Hunt at the Original, a State Police Memorial Parade (May 14), the Farmer's Market (May 29-October 8), Oktoberfest, An Ri Ra, Evel Knievel Days (in their 10th year), the County Fair, and the 3rd of July Celebration. And the Montana Folk Festival.
As for the Folk MT Resources has committ4ed to be a major sponsor, and the Washington Foundation is matching many other funds. There are many groups that will be playing over the three days of the event, and they represent a wide variety of cultures and musical traditions. In many locations where the National Folk Festival has come and gone, the fourth year festival (that's what we're coming up on now) is larger than the National Folk Festival was during any of its three years in the community.
Many improvements are being made to the venues and to the layout of the festival as a whole.
Since Butte's National Folk Festival was among the best the organizers have seen, many people who put together the National Folk Festival in Butte have been asked to help with the National Folk Festival in Nashville later this summer.
