This spring, Tyler Broden and Dan Zieske of the Montana Tech Circle K, Courtney Schuelke of the Butte High Key Club, and Keith Seyffarth of Silver Bow Kiwanis are coordinating a project to put together backpacks for Safe Space.

"Safe Space Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program opposes violence against body and spirit within the home and in the community. Acts of domestic abuse are perpetrated primarily against women and children in the family.
...
Safe Space is committed to combating and preventing violence in the home by providing advocacy, emergency and supportive services to victims and their families, and is educating and involving the community in the process."

Tyler, Dan, Courtney and Keith are working to bring all members of the Kiwanis family of organizations in butte together for this project. We are looking to put together at least 100 backpacks/necessity bags for people going into Safe Space to get out of a dangerous situation. These backpacks should contain toiletries including:
- Shampoo
- Soap
- Toothpaste
- Tooth Brush
- Floss
and, as available (or appropriate):
- Conditioner
- Deodorant
- Lotion
- Tampons/pads
- Chapstick/lip balm
In addition, these backpacks should contain personal items including:
- t-shirt
- socks
and, as available (or appropriate):
- book
- toy
- quilt

The Butte High Key Club is already working on getting quilts and toys. The Circle K and the Butte Central Key Club are visiting hotels in the area to ask for donations of hotel sizes of shampoo, conditioner, and soap. The Circle K is also already talking with local dentists about dental products, and Montana Tech has offered some toothbrushes. The Central Builder's Club and the East Builder's Clubs are already putting out boxes to collect sample sized personal hygiene products.

We will be meeting in the Butte Central High Gym on April 2 at 1:00 p.m. To assemble backpacks to have them ready for pick-up by Safe Space staff.

Before this time, we will be requesting donations of items or money from our fellow Kiwanians, families, and the community to help this project. We will also need people who would like to go shopping once we have cash donations. Our shoppers will be looking for items from the above list.
